What is expanded form of a number?
The expanded form of number expresses the numbers as the c.

Example write the expanded form of 231 .
Step : 1)
Write the place values of each of the digits in the number.
Here the digits are 1,3 and 2 .
Place value = face value × place
Place values of 1 = 1(face value) × 1 (one's place) = 1
Place values of 3 = 3 × 10 (ten's place) = 30
Place values of 2 = 2 × 100 (hundred's place) = 200
Step 2 )
now express the number as sum of the place values of each digit in the number.( do not add the numbers )
Now expanded form = expressing the number as the sum of the place values of each of its digits .
= 200+30+1

Example write the expanded form of 5094 .
Step : 1)
Write the place values of each of the digits in the number.
Here the digits are 5,0,9 and 4 .
Place value = face value × place.
Since we know that place value and face value of 0 is 0. so we can leave the 0.
Place values of 4 = (face value) × 1 (one's place) = 4
Place values of 9 =9 × 10 (ten's place) = 90
Place values of 5 = 5 × 1000 (thousand's place) = 5000
Step 2 )
now express the number as sum of the place values of each digit in the number.( do not add the numbers )
Now expanded form = expressing the number as the sum of the place values of each of its digits .
= 5000 + 90 + 4
