In the polynomial $ax^2+bx+c$ , $a$,$b$, $c$ is called constants and $x$ is called variables.
The value of constants remains the same throughout a particular situation but the value of variable keeps on changing.
$ax^2$, $bx$, $c$ is called terms of the polynomial .
Each term of the polynomial has a coefficient . So, the cofficient of $x^2$ is a, $x$ is $b$ and constant is $c$.
Important: A expression is polynomial if the exponents of the variable is whole number.
therefore , $x+1/x$ is not a polynomial.
Similiarly, √x+ 3 etc are not polynomials.
Degree Of Polynomial: highest power of the variable in a polynomial is called as the degree of the polynomial.
E.g degree of polynomial $ax^2+bx+c$ is 2. Similiarly, degree of polynomial in the polynomial $x^5-x^3+1$ is 5.
If the degree of polynomial is 1 , then the polynomial is called linear polynomial.
Polynomial of degree 2 is called quadratic polynomial. e.g $6x^2 + 8x-1 $ , $x^2-1$
